Intermediate River Running Progression

  • Age: 13-18

  • Meeting Times: Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30-7:00 pm and Fridays 9am-5pm

  • Spring: Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:00-8:00

2018 Dates

  • Spring: 5/6/19-6/19/19*

  • Session 1: 6/24/19-7/12/19

  • Session 2: 7/15/19-8/2/19

  • Session 3: 8/5/19-8/23/19

*No paddling on Memorial Day, May 27.

Program Description

The Voyagers program is for those paddlers who are capable of paddling class III whitewater, but are looking to do so with more style and finesse! This program focuses on mastering the roll and becoming completely confident in class III whitewater. We will focus on more challenging eddies and ferry moves, and begin to introduce more freestyle oriented moves, like surfing, spinning, enders, and squirts. 

Specific Skills Focus

River safety and awareness; rolling in moving water; swimming in whitewater; advanced paddle strokes and boat control techniques; perfecting eddy turns; basic river rescue scenarios; surfing and freestyle; and basics of slalom racing

Spring Paddling

They Voyagers will paddle two days per week for the spring session, beginning May 6th.  We will paddle the Hoback, Snake, Granite Creek, and other area rivers. The culmination of spring paddling will be a trip to the Gallatin Whitewater Festival on June 21-23 (not included in spring session fee). Please see the gear list for additional spring paddling gear. 


Spring Session: $425 (13 afternoons on the river)

Single Session: Before May 1- $425 After May 1- $450

Summer (all 3 sessions): $1150
